Which size does your dog need?
The most important question – and it's easy to answer: measure your dog's neck circumference at the widest point just below the ears. Plus 2–3 cm tolerance for comfortable wear. At RudisRudel we have seven sizes from XXS to XXL, mapped to neck circumference:

2-finger test: When the bandana is on, you should fit 2 fingers comfortably between fabric and neck. Too tight → uncomfortable. Too loose → slides during sniffing and playing.
Tip: If your dog is still growing or between two sizes, go for the larger one. Our bandanas are sewn with a loop through which the collar is threaded – so the bandana sits stable, even with a bit of play.
How the bandana is attached
In our RudisRudel range you'll find two attachment variants – both have their place:
Loop (the collar threads through)
- Very stable – the bandana sits firmly on the collar, doesn't slide up or down
- Long-lasting – a fabric loop practically doesn't wear
- Pro: bandana and collar stay as a unit – nothing slips when playing or running
- Con: putting it on takes a few extra seconds because the collar has to come off and back on
Snap button
- Quick on and off – a few seconds, without removing the collar
- Flexible – also wearable without a collar, if your dog is going bare
- Pro: if you switch bandanas often (for photos or different outfits)
- Con: snap buttons can wear out over many years – rarely a problem in practice
Which variant? Depends on the bandana itself: reversible and muslin models often use the loop. Other designs come with a snap button. The product description shows what the model uses.

What is a reversible bandana?
A reversible bandana has – as the name says – two sides: two different fabrics or patterns, sewn together, fully reversible. You switch the look in 10 seconds without needing a second bandana.

Care: washing, drying, ironing
Bandanas have an advantage: they're easy to care for because pure fabric (no hardware, no carabiners).
- Washing: at 30°C on gentle cycle, ideally in a laundry net. Mild detergent is enough, no bleach.
- Drying: Air-dry is gentlest. Dryer is possible but can fade vibrant colors.
- Ironing: at medium temperature without steam. Iron reversibles from the inside so seam edges don't shine.
- What you do NOT need: waterproofing spray, leather conditioner or other treatments. Fabric stays fabric.
Tip from the pack: After muddy walks, bandana straight into the wash, so it's back to outfit-level by the next photo. Warning: your dog looks naked without a bandana after 3 weeks :-)

FAQ — Dog Bandana
How is the bandana attached – Velcro, loop or snap button?
The RudisRudel range has two variants: loop (the collar threads through, very stable and long-lasting) or snap button (quick switching, also wearable without collar). Which variant each bandana uses is in the product description. We don't use Velcro because it wears out faster.
Which size for my puppy?
Measure the neck circumference and take the next size up. If your puppy is still growing, go one size up – the loop forgives some play. You can reorder when they grow.
Can I wash the bandana in the machine?
Yes, at 30°C on gentle cycle. Use a laundry net, mild detergent, no bleach. Air-drying is gentler than tumble dry – especially for vibrant fabrics.
What's the difference between bandana and reversible bandana?
A classic bandana has one fabric (one side). A reversible bandana is double-layer with two different fabrics – flip it for two looks. Effectively two bandanas for the price of one.
Does my dog tolerate the bandana, even in summer?
For very hot days we recommend our muslin bandana: double-layer muslin, breathable, very light. Classic cotton bandanas are fine in summer, but above 30°C heat better take it off or switch to muslin.
